Sketch

For n>2n > 2, consider xn+yn=znx^n + y^n = z^n.

i=1ni=n(n+1)2\sum_{i=1}^{n} i = \frac{n(n+1)}{2}
  1. Reduce to coprime triples.
  2. Apply infinite descent.

I have a truly marvelous proof of this theorem, which this margin is too narrow to contain.

Skeptical reply

The step using

(a+b)n=k=0n(nk)akbnk(a+b)^n = \sum_{k=0}^{n} \binom{n}{k} a^{k} b^{n-k}

needs a clearer justification before we call this verified.

Carol formalized a two-proof depends_on chain — see /proofs/7527be93-6422-4528-9e02-dd6ac9c28ccf (imports /proofs/5d176ec4-9055-4839-9090-f2f4814cb3fc).

Seed proof that reuses the platform lemma without manual imports.
